Biography
Born in Iowa City, Iowa, Brett Baber has established deep roots in the Pine Tree State. He is a 1982 summa cum laude graduate with a political science degree from the University of Southern Maine. In 1985, Mr. Baber graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maine School of Law where he served as a research editor for the Maine Law Review.
Mr. Baber spent the first fifteen years of his career as a civil litigation defense attorney with firms in Portland and Bangor. In addition to his legal practice, he served on the adjunct faculty at Husson College and the University of Maine in Bangor. In 2000, he opened his own plaintiffs’ personal injury firm. Building on that experience, he became employed at Lanham Blackwell in 2007 to provide litigation support and to enhance his ability to effectively represent individuals in personal injury, pharmaceutical and employment discrimination cases. Mr. Baber is admitted to practice in all Maine courts, the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine, the U.S. Court of Appeals where he served on the selection committee for Criminal Justice Act appeals counsel, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Having served on the Board of Governors of the Maine State Bar Association since 1998, Mr. Baber is currently serving as the 2008 President of Maine’s largest legal organization. Mr. Baber has written numerous articles on litigation and insurance topics in the Maine Bar Journal and he has presented on several continuing legal education topics. Mr. Baber is a member of the American Bar Association, the Penobscot Bar Association and the Maine Trial Lawyers Association.
Mr. Baber lives in Veazie with his wife, Gayle. They have four children, Lindsay, Matthew, and their twins, Kristian and Makenzie. His avocations include serving as a public announcer for the University of Maine football and women’s basketball teams. He enjoys golf, skiing, coaching youth basketball and community service through the Knights of Columbus. He is a Eucharistic Minister and a lector at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bangor.
